Respond! is a control panel that brings a limited form of preemptive multitasking to the Macintosh right now. And it runs on any Mac, 68k or PowerPC, with System 7.0 or later. No more waiting for MacOS X or Rhapsody. Even in Mac OS 8, if you hold down a menu in the Finder, processes will not continue in the background. With Respond!, you can be holding down a menu (particularly useful with Sticky Menus in Mac OS 8), or clicking in a the zoom or close boxes (or the WindowShade collapse box in Mac OS 8), or dragging a window or the thumb of a scroll bar, and processes will continue in the background.
Respond! includes the option to use Live Window drag. When this option is turned on, the full window, not just the outline, will be dragged, and both foreground and background processing will continue, meaning the window itself will be updated as its being dragged around! For example, you can drag around an mp3 player window and watch as it continues playing and updating the time counter while moving.
GETTING STARTED
Drag Respond! to your System Folder. When it asks if you want to put it in the Control Panels folder, click 'OK'. Restart your computer to start using Respond! You can enable Live Window drag and/or Live Scrolling from the Control Panel. The latest version of all our products can always be found on our website at <http://www.wto.com>.
If you have an older version of Respond! already installed, go to the Control Panels folder and drag it to the trash before following the above instructions.
REGISTERING
If you use this program, you need to pay a small fee of $10. This is the cost for a single-user license. Site licenses are available at reduced rates. The Register program will automatically calculate the correct rate for the number of licenses you order. Not only will registering fulfill your legal (and moral) obligation, but when you register, you will receive a code that will allow you to eliminate that annoying registration notice, entitle you to free upgrades to all future versions, and use the software for more than 30 days. Registering is REQUIRED BY LAW and gives us the incentives and funds we need to develop new and exciting shareware products. Please be sure to include your name and address when registering.
To register, open the Register program that accompanies Respond! Enter your name, your postal address, your e-mail address (if you have one), and the number of user licenses you desire for each program you wish to purchase. Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi. Kagi handles our payment processing.
If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgment when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct Internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgment.
If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:

You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical. If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on our behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end.
Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method. Without the payment, the form cannot be processed. Payments sent via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing, although usually much less. Again, if you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when the form is processed and will receive your personal registration code. If you do not have an email address, please enter your complete postal address so that we can send you your registration code and please remember, we do not know what country you live in so please enter that into the postal address also.

CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS
Changes from the public alpha seed 1.0a1 include numerous stability improvements and bug fixes in addition to several cosmetic fixes, such as preventing windows from being dragged under the menu bar.
Live Window dragging now works in the Finder!
The Live Scrolling option has been removed, due to issues of compatibility. If you require Live Scrolling, there are some other Live Scrolling system extensions out there, but with the advent of Mac OS 8 and beyond, many applications now support Live Scrolling on their own, as will Rhapsody/Mac OS X.
KNOWN PROBLEMS
Respond! is a hack, and as such, it may not be completely compatible with everything you might own. There's really no way to get around a lot of this without replacing the entire OS. (Can anybody say Mac OS X?)
The Mac OS 8 Finder uses non-standard window dragging, so if you have Live Windows turned off, processes will not be able to continue in the background while dragging. Note that the Live Windows option works around this without a problem.
The "Double-click title bar to collapse" option in the Appearance or WindowShade control panel will not function with Live Windows turned on. A workaround is to hold down one of the modifier keys (command, option, or control) when double-clicking on a window title bar. Note that the window collapse button in the title bar will still function correctly, and this problem will not affect stability or performance. Also, some inactive windows may not activate correctly when clicked on- you may have to click on them multiple times to bring them to the front.
Microsoft Word 98 is not entirely compatible with Respond!. This conflict can be resolved by turning off Respond! in the control panel before using Word 98. Earlier versions of Word should not have this problem.

All expenses resulting from a bounced check are solely the responsibility of the user of The Software.
The Software may be copied and distributed freely, provided that it is distributed whole and in unmodified form and no fee is charged for distribution, including a fee for the media through which The Software is distributed. Any party distributing The Software for any fee, all inclusive, or along with another product, must have advance written permission from Wolf Technologies, Inc. If you use The Software for more than 30 days, you are required to purchase a registered copy. The Software may not be modified, rented, sublicensed, leased, conveyed, translated, converted to another form, decompiled, reverse engineered, reduced to human perceivable form, or disassembled for any purpose without written permission from Wolf Technologies, Inc. in advance.
Government End Users: If you are acquiring this software on behalf of any unit or agency of the United States Government, the following provisions apply.
